Information on 2021 Nominations & Elections

NMNPC holds elections every year and members vote for colleagues who will serve on the Board of Directors and the Nominating Committee. The individuals who volunteer their time and expertise to promote the mission and important work of our organization are important assets to our professional organization. NMNPC appreciates and values our members who place their names on the election ballot. Please review the relevant topics below for more information.

Important Dates
  • December 15, 2020 Call for nominations
  • February 15, 2021 Close of call for nominations
  • March 10-25, 2021 Voting via online ballot
  • March 27, 2021 Announcement of election results
  • April 1, 2021 Terms of office begin

          

 

Positions Open for Election
  • Treasurer - Estimated time commitment is 4-6 hours per week.

    • Cause maintenance of a record of all credits and debits, receipts, and disbursements.
    • Cause payment of bills as requested and authorized by the Board.
    • Oversee preparation of an annual budget for consideration and approval by the Board.
    • Provide ongoing oversight of the annual budget.
    • Prepare and present a report to the Board at least one (1) day prior to all regular Board meetings.
    • Submit a written report to the general membership at the annual meeting.

     

  • Member at Large - Estimated time commitment is 2-4 hours per week.
    • Provide active assistance and counsel to the Board.
    • Serve as voting, ex-officio member of standing or ad hoc committees when requested by the President.

     

  • Region 3 Representative - Estimated time commitment is 2-4 hours per week.
    • Provide active assistance and counsel to the Board.
    • Serve as voting, ex-officio member of standing or ad hoc committees when requested by the President.
    • Represents Region 3 (Southwest Counties): Catron, Dona Ana, Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, Sierra and Socorro.

       

  • Region 4 Representative - Estimated time commitment is 2-4 hours per week.
    • Provide active assistance and counsel to the Board.
    • Serve as voting, ex-officio member of standing or ad hoc committees when requested by the President.
    • Represents Region 4 (Southeast Counties): Lincoln, De Baca, Roosevelt, Otero, Chavez, Eddy, and Lea. 

     

  • Region 5 Representative - Estimated time commitment is 2-4 hours per week.
    • Provide active assistance and counsel to the Board.
    • Serve as voting, ex-officio member of standing or ad hoc committees when requested by the President.
    • Represents Region 5 (Bernalillo County)

     

  • Nominating Committee (1 position open) - Estimated time commitment is 2-4 hours per week during the nominations and election process.
    • Solicit the membership for nominees, review qualifications, and select nominees to be placed on the ballot.
    • Submit a slate to the Board each year within the time frame established in the bylaws.
    • Strive to prepare a slate consisting of at least two (2) nominees for each position to be filled each year.

Eligibility & Expectations of Elected Positions

Full and retired members of NMNPC are eligible for elected positions. Members of the Board of Directors must reside in New Mexico and Region Representatives must practice and/or reside in the Region which they represent. The bylaws also state that the "Board of Directors shall serve in good faith, shall uphold the highest professional, ethical, and legal standards and shall fulfill the functions of their positions." Additionally, members of the Board of Directors must sign the NMNPC conflict of interest form, attend 80% of meetings and make every effort to attend the spring and fall conferences. The Board of Directors has monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month and may schedule additional special meetings if needed. The regular meetings are typically no longer than 60 minutes; additional meetings are generally shorter meetings because they're called to address limited topics.


Nominations & Election Process

Eligible candidates must complete the nominations form by the close of call on February 15. Completing the nomination form includes:

  • Verification of New Mexico residency
  • Verification of residing or practicing in the Region (only for Region Representative candidates)
  • Understanding and acceptance of requirements and expectations for elected positions
  • Understanding and acceptance of election and campaign process guidelines
  • Upload of the following
    • Signed conflict of interest
    • Election statement (200 words or less)
    • Photograph (preferably a professional headshot)
    • NP license lookup report (click here to view and print license verification)
    • One-page campaign flyer (optional)- view and print the report for submission.)

Campaign Process & Procedures

Candidates may provide a one-page campaign flyer which NMNPC will distribute to the membership with the announcement of the final slate of candidates. Candidates may also provide an election statement of not more 200 words to include on the ballot. Candidates may not do any other form of campaigning, including, but not limited to:

  • Using any form of social media to distribute information (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, personal websites)
  • Using a list serve or database from any organization
  • Soliciting or accepting endorsements or campaigning by other members
  • Suggesting other members promote the candidate's election
  • Promoting candidacy through public announcements, phone solicitation, articles or editorials

Eligibility to Vote

All NPs who are current full or retired members are eligible to vote in the annual NMNPC elections. To vote, members must log in to their profile during the voting period March 10-25, 2021 and complete the ballot. The Nominating Committee will notify the membership prior to March 10 when the ballot becomes active.
