Spotlight on Geneva Salinas

Geneva Salinas is an FNP working with Rio Grande Medical Group in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She's been a nurse practitioner for a year and currently practices both in the clinic and in the hospital setting. Geneva's career as a nurse began in 2006. She worked in the ICU setting and recognized that many of the patients she was caring for in the critical care setting were as ill as they were because of poor preventative health care and lack of access to care. Her call to become a nurse practitioner stemmed from the realization that people needed to be educated about the importance of preventative and maintenance care. Geneva believed that by becoming a nurse practitioner, she could help patients in the clinic setting by helping diagnose and manage medical conditions in an effort to keep people out of the hospital. She has also recognized the difficulty patients have finding primary care providers to the shortages in New Mexico. Geneva's overall goal as a family nurse practitioner is to provide high quality, holistic, patient-centered care.
