Spotlight on Tamaki Harrold

Tamaki (Kia) Harrold received a master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. She also holds a master’s degree in International Relations and Human Rights from the University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree in dance from the University of California, Irvine Campus. Kia is board certified as a family nurse practitioner (FNP-C) through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and is a member of AANP as well as the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council (NMNPC). She’s a full-time primary care provider and Medical Director at Questa Health Center in Questa, New Mexico. She also runs nutrition and wellness groups for the community as well as a clinic-based outpatient medication assisted treatment (MAT) program, to provide care for people with opiate use disorders.

In Kia’s words, she decided to become a nurse practitioner because “I’ve had a long-standing interest in the promotion of human rights. I believe that access to health care is one of the most effective means of achieving basic human rights objectives. I moved to New Mexico specifically to work with the under-served and medically disenfranchised populations, where my practice is directly aligned with my values.”

Kia enjoys living in the mountains of northern New Mexico where she can pursue her outdoor interests, including hiking, backpacking and skiing.
